Social Marketing and PR

Everybody knows someone, right? Social Marketing is “word of mouth” marketing and networking in the digital age. How easy is it for any of us to forward a link or an email to someone that we know would be interested in information that we ourselves came upon? It’s a lot easier than picking up a phone and calling them, or waiting until we see them next time right? And think about the reach. In the digital world we have folks that we’re connected to others all over the country and world for that matter. Social marketing is nothing more than letting people know what we’re doing and staying in touch with them about things in our lives, whether that be business or personal. These people in turn let people they know that there’s something out there that they might be interested in as well. This is what social marketing aka social media marketing is all about, people helping people in a productive way. Any company with a good legitimate product or service is really missing the boat if they are not employing a social media strategy. It does take some work to build and monitor, but in the end it’s worth it. It is like creating a managing your own little PR department.

Public Relations or PR is all about getting noticed. In the past PR usually meant hiring a firm to have press releases drafted and hopefully picked up my the major news wires. The internet has and is continuing to change the nature of public relations in a big way. The very nature of press release has really changed in recent times. Gone are the very regimented and boring press release of old. There are thousands of online media outlets that did not exist just a few years ago.
